Huzzah! I have returned victorious from the Land of Ghetto Garage Sales and returned with yet another kitchen gadget - an espresso machine! For only $5!

I was very, very tempted to go and buy the $1 nut glazer. Just to say that I had such a thing. I might go back.

I do not know if this conversation between Cait and I will make any sense but I was begged to post this.

Hmm. Have finally listened to PtsD for the first time (that "Nine in the Afternoon" song).

They sound like Oasis gone gay.

Am I the only one who hears this?

This probably won't make sense to anyone but [info]channonyarrow anyhow, but after having a long conversation with the Rainmaker this week about character inspiration, I ironically found Zach's earliest counterpart. So, he didn't come out of as much of a vacuum as I'd thought...

I (as Pete) used to be part of a game called Zero Hour. Quotes that will make no sense to most. )

I really, really hope this makes no sense to anyone.

I, um, replaced all the Zach quotes with Old Gregg in an old JaB RP.

Bailey's from a shoe? )

Er, a slight note to anyone from WAO who may be lurking this journal. There are comms on here that never got started or that are dead. The only real active one here is [info]unsungheroes, an icon comm.

So, yeah, don't try to join anything else, please.

Under the link, so as not to offend )

Other than that, I really have nothing sensible to report. Or nonsensical.

I haven't done much of anything today and it feels quite good. I even opened a V.C. Andrews book. Of course, I closed it again right quick but.

Sometimes I think I missed my calling and I would've done better to write formulaic gothic novels about incest.

Even if you don't like Barack (or know who he is), you might think this was funny. I sure laughed like hell.

In response to the "Yes, We Can" song, someone made one about McCain: http://youtube.com/watch?v=3gwqEneBKUs&feature=bz302.

EDIT: What's better? Tweak says, "Shiny! We can be bad guys!"

Stolen from slytherat over on LJ:

Follow these easy steps!
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4.Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post the result as a comment in this post. Also, pass it along in your own journal because it's more amusing that way.

Subject: The Way the Future Was
Security: Public

2035.

The Second War is long over. The Trio went into everyday life, and so the world began to return to what was, on the surface, normalcy. There were those wizards who went to the muggle world and never returned but overall, the world was beginning to heal and rebuild.

Then it came. The crashing of the muggle economy and the destruction of natural resources. Global climate change. Plague. As the earth began to fall apart, mankind began to reach for the stars.

But this was a place to which wizards could not follow. As muggles destroyed their world, stripping it bare so that those resources could be taken to starships and planets they were colonizing, the wizarding world began to divide. There were those who argued that the muggles who remained should be enslaved and forced to recreate the resources that they had taken from the world. There were others who considered that wrong and stated that they would fight to protect those who remained. Without strong muggle government to intervene, a new war is on the horizon.

It may be the last.

Subject: Timeline of the Quest for Space
Security: Public

NOTE: This doesn't take into account other new technologies; however, I would say that the majority of muggle energy and time went into efforts to expand into the stars rather than improving the way that people lived on Earth. This probably causes the ideological basis for a split between pureblooded and muggleborn wizards- the muggles are destroying a world they have no intention of remaining on.

The timeline, for reasons of brevity and the canvas of the game, does not focus on the Americas.

2000
Muggle governments begin to realize secretly that the impact of global climate change and the loss of natural resources will make the earth inhabitable in under a century. Exploratory missions are undertaken by the United States, China and Russia to investigate the possibility of terraforming Mars. The Russians and China begin independent projects, though the Russian space program is more accelerated.

2008
Russia and China sign an agreement to join together in working towards the goal of colonizing space. Population controls begin to become effective and enforced in Russia and Japan, limiting families to 2 children per family. (China already has effective controls but steps them up.)

2010
The first group of workers is sent to build biodomes on Mars. Europe begins population controls (the U.S. will not adopt them until 2015.) Global climate is growing steadily worse.

2015
The Sino-Russian exploratory settlement team reaches Mars. Most of the party dies due to equipment failure and the miscalculations of senior crew members.

2016
The oil situation has become desperate. The use of cars is restricted only to official government usage. The European Union signs onto the Sino-Russian Space Pact to assist in developing resources to settle Mars.

2019
The second settlement team is sent to Mars and provides more successful. This group is known as the First Hundred. At this time, the Generation Initiative begins, a project to construct starships and space stations on which large groups of human beings can live.

2025
The first groups of citizens begin to depart on the generation starships. Colonization and terraforming of Mars continues. Most of those sent to settle are scientific or service-oriented.

2028
The Mars Lottery begins. Random citizens are offered settlement and mass exodus begins. This occurs at the same time that a series of plagues wipes through Europe and the East, decimating much of the remaining population.

2035
Present day. The terraforming of the red planet is complete but not all muggles have been moved off Earth. Most of Earth's remaining resources are being thrown into the space program and in supporting the colonies in Mars.

Subject: "Fronts" of the War
Security: Public

These are the sort of "fronts" or places of action during the war but we could branch out if it seems feasible. I'm reluctant to go into Eastern Europe (ie: Bulgaria) because I've seen it done a lot and I'd like to be different with this game.

England/United Kingdom: The game's "starting point".
Germany/France: The second front of the war- though something will have to occur to provoke a diplomatic response.
Russia/China: Where the "space race" is happening- muggles are largely refugeeing here and leaving for either the Mars Terraforming Project or a generation starship. This is the center of most remaining muggle population.
Algeria/N.Africa: Where much of the experimental technology is being housed. Probably where the camp system starts, probably where things like bombs are tested.
